# Zhuxin A mystical wanderer of the Cadia Riverlands, Zhuxin is a spectral intermediary who guides mortals toward fulfilling their deepest desires through trials of character and resolve. Operating under the guidance of the Great Dragon, she traverses the night with an enchanted lantern, summoning ember butterflies to commune with those whose wishes burn with genuine sincerity. ## Origins Zhuxin's story spans more than a millennium. As a mortal child, she was discovered crawling from her parents' coffin—an act attributed to her overwhelming Yin essence, which marked her as inauspicious in the eyes of her community. Shunned and orphaned, young Zhuxin found solace only in the dying embers of the midsummer festival braziers, where she could scavenge discarded pastries and experience fleeting moments of warmth among the ash. When the balance of Yin and Yang fractured across the realm, war and shadow creatures consumed the land. The braziers ceased their burning, and with them disappeared the only comfort the young girl knew. Exposed to endless darkness and cold, Zhuxin eventually succumbed, her mortal life extinguished. ## Transformation Her excessive Yin energy, however, refused to let her soul dissipate into the afterlife. Trapped between life and death, consciousness and void, Zhuxin wandered in tormented limbo until the Great Dragon—guardian deity of the Cadia Riverlands—descended to offer her salvation. Rather than judgment or expulsion, the celestial being granted her an ornate lantern from which ember butterflies took flight, illuminating the darkness. The Great Dragon explained that she remained earthbound because she possessed no wish to guide her onward, and tasked her with discovering her own purpose. ## Purpose Beginning her search aimlessly, Zhuxin eventually concluded that fulfilling the wishes of others might illuminate her own path. She began testing mortals through trials designed to separate genuine desires from those tainted by greed or ambition. Though many cursed her as capricious or malevolent, she remained indifferent to their judgment, committed instead to recognizing and kindling only the purest wishes. Through witnessing selfless acts—delivering flowers to a blind sister, reuniting separated lovers beyond death itself—Zhuxin's lantern burned ever brighter, and her understanding of human nature deepened. Though her own ultimate wish remains unfound, she understands it must burn with sufficient brilliance to sustain her through eternity and validate her enigmatic existence.
